Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at North Valley Middle School. I hope everyone is enjoying the extended summer. As many of you know, the extra time is the result of a construction calendar. North Valley Middle School is undergoing a transformation including two new additions, remodeling of virtually all of the existing building and new furniture throughout. We are extremely excited and thankful to be able to offer a first rate, twenty-first century educational opportunity in a top notch, twenty-first century facility.
This year’s school supply list can be found on the school website. You may notice the list is much shorter than in years past. This has been done intentionally in an effort to reduce the financial burden on families. Our Parent Teacher Organization has generously offered to help offset some of the expenses by purchasing many of the items that had traditionally been on the list.
My three-pronged philosophy in building excellent school culture has not changed: First, treat all students, fairly, firmly and with love – as you would want your own child treated. To me this means cultivating a safe, caring, engaging environment while maintaining a high level of accountability for all. Second, provide a consistent, viable curriculum in every classroom. It is our duty at the middle school to prepare students for high school. To accomplish this, students must be academically challenged in a standards based curriculum. Finally, we must use sound instructional strategies: strategies that are research based and challenge students to think critically, work collaboratively and perform at levels that maximize potential.
This year we welcome six new staff members to an already amazing group of teachers: Mr. Matt Williams, Social Studies, Ms. Mary Alice George, English Language Arts, Mr. Garrick Lee, Special Education, Ms. Karen
